Hey you,
How are things? I hope you’re doing okay, especially for my sake because I am going through it. I don’t want to sound like a complainer but you need context.
So, you already know I’m based in Lagos (unfortunately it’s the one in Nigeria, not Portugal #FML) and there has been no power for over 8 days which means that I’m using the generator every day. Five days ago, I started seeing queues at the fuel station, apparently, there’s a scarcity in town. I haven’t been able to do quality work because my brain is stressed. So, that’s where I’m at, I really hope you’re doing better than me.
On fear being a bastard, do you know I was so terrified that I was going to mess up my Alfredo pasta? I was like, “I hope I don’t screw this up because the ingredients are not cheap.” Thank goodness, I didn’t mess it up and this is the sign you’ve been waiting for to try something new. Why do we let fear rule us? I hate myself for allowing it cripple me so much. I mean, what’s the worst that could happen?
After watching countless videos on Youtube, I chose this recipe by ThatGirlCanCook! and made a few tweaks to it.
Here’s my ingredients list, I never know measurements, I just eyeball everything (I'm sorry) Note that I greatly reduced the normal amount of cream because too much of it makes me queasy.
Linguine
Cooking cream
Parmesan cheese
Shrimps
Scotch bonnet
Ginger
Garlic
Unsalted butter
Vegetable oil
Onion
Parsley
Salt
Black pepper
White pepper
If you ever try this recipe, let me know, okay?
Back to Nigeria trying its best to screw me in the ass, its’s been hard to create interesting content, the ideas are there but there is no motivation to execute so, I’ve been reading a lot(DUH), watching K-Dramas (as always), and listening to podcasts. Here’s what I’ve been up to;
Vladimir by Julia May Jonas is a story about a beloved English professor facing a slew of accusations against her professor husband by former students—a situation that becomes more complicated when she herself develops an obsession of her own. I listened to it on Libro FM and it has one of the most well written anti heroes I've read in a long time. This is how I love my literary fiction 🤌🏾 Dark, reflective but very entertaining.
Watched the infamous Netflix documentary, The Tinder Swindler and it stressed me out so much so I watched a swoonworthy K-Drama to re-center myself. What's Wrong With Secretary Kim gave me the required endorphins I needed. A very yummy watch. Highly Recommended 🤗
I discovered a new podcast that I really enjoy, Books And Boba. The episode I listened to is the one where they talk about the Asian fantasy epic, She Who Became The Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan. It made me better appreciate the novel than I did when I read it last year, also I like the banter between the hosts.
There's a new episode of The Litty Podcast, Karachi and I have a master class where we dissected the romance novel🤗
This February, The Indulgent Bibliophile is reading The Blessed Girl by Angela Makholwa and we’ll be chatting on Sunday 27th of February 2022 at 5pm WAT/4pm GMT. Click HERE for the link to join the zoom room thingy.
If there's anything I want you to take away from this letter is to Do Something New, okay? Do it for you.(but I also want to hear all about it, you know where to reach me)
Fun fact: Apparently, white chocolate isn’t chocolate. Its name is deceiving because white chocolate doesn’t have any components of regular chocolate. It’s really just a mixture of sugar, milk, vanilla, lecithin, and cocoa butter. They lost me at the cocoa butter bit because as as that’s an ingredient, it’s definitely chocolate. What do you think?
See you on the other side, Dearest.
XOXO
