Hey you,
Welcome to October. It’s my birthday month by the way. I’m 15th, are you my birthday mate or do you know any? This year, I’ll be turning 33 (the Jesus year) and usually, I’m super excited for my birthday, but this year is just comme ci-comme ca. I didn’t even make a wishlist till this morning.
It’s not like I’m feeling bad about what stage I am in my life, on the contrary, I’m grateful for where I am now. Grateful to have the skills to make a living, friends all over the world who are genuine positive vibes, a loving family, and a tight community. I just feel like I should be doing more, you know? And I don’t know what the more is. It’s dulling my morale a little bit. Do you ever feel that way?
So this is what I've been doing to distract myself. First, Korean TV dramas are the best and I don’t know why it took me this long to get on the train but I’m never getting off now. The world has been raving about Squid Game but here are a few shows to start with if you want to test the waters.
Crash Landing On You is a story about a S.Korean billionaire heiress who accidentally lands in N.Korea and meets a soldier who does his best to get her out undetected but alas, love and other things get in the way. This show kept me up so many nights because I just had to know how it was resolved. So good. You should also check out When Camellia Blooms and Mine. They are all available on Netflix.
Secondly, I’ve been reading but not as much because of the Kdramas, but there has been a lot of multi-reading and DNFing going on. In my search for a book where women kill, @thecandidbookclub suggested How to Kill Your Family by Bella Mackie which I really enjoyed even though the ending annoyed me. Also, you should be following The Candid Bookclub, I always see insightful reviews on their page and they make the DMs very fun.
So, that’s me and how I’ve been coping with my crippling anxiety. If you have any tips for me, do share. Also, thank you for always sending funny animal and baby videos on IG, it means so much to me and always brightens my day.
In other news, my book club, The Indulgent Bibliophile, is reading Butter Honey Pig Bread this month and we’re going to chat with the author at the end of the month, details will be shared so, look out for that. Also, I’m hosting a book chat with the author, Francesca Ekwuyasi, at Ake Festival. I’m super excited about that. I’ll share more details about this when they share the link because it’s a virtual event this year.
Here’s a fun fact before I leave you. Did you know that Brunch, Eggs Benedict, Bloody Marys, and Coca Cola were all invented to cure hangovers? Well, now you know.
I’ll try not to take too long before I see you next time.
